The New Orleans Saints will be without their top receiving option in Week 2 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Michael Thomas is officially ruled out for the contest with a high ankle sprain, according to the Saints' official injury report obtained by ESPN's Paul Gutierrez. He suffered the ailment during the team's Week 1 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported earlier this week that the injury is worse than the team originally believed and the receiver could miss several weeks of action.

However, the Saints thought Thomas could possibly play through it after he "felt fantastic" during Thursday's practice, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Thomas was kept in check by the Buccaneers' secondary in the season opener, recording just three receptions for 17 yards. The Saints' passing attack will likely rely heavily on receiver Emmanuel Sanders and tight end Jared Cook in his absence.
