Report: Seahawks made offer to Freeman; Jets, Eagles also interested
Free-agent running back Devonta Freeman is reportedly generating some interest.
Amid their uncertain backfield situation, the Seattle Seahawks made an offer to Freeman, according to Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio.
Seattle reportedly offered a one-year deal worth up to $4 million, according to NFL.com's Michael Silver, but Freeman is asking for more, according to Caplan. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets are also interested in Freeman, Silver adds.
Veteran free-agent running back Carlos Hyde, who was reportedly targeted by the Eagles, has also had conversations with the Seahawks, according to Silver.
Seattle lost running backs Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny to injuries ahead of the 2019 postseason. Carson suffered a fractured hip in Week 16, while Penny tore his ACL in Week 14. The Seahawks signed veteran Marshawn Lynch for the remainder of the playoffs.
Freeman, 28, enjoyed back-to-back Pro Bowl campaigns in 2015 and 2016 when he amassed at least 1,500 scrimmage yards and 13 touchdowns in consecutive seasons. However, he hasn't been able to match that production recently; he missed 16 games and posted just six scores across the last two seasons.
