Browns roll back to classic uniforms with a few modern tweaks

The Cleveland Browns unveiled new uniforms Wednesday that are heavily based on the club's attire from the 1960s until Nike overhauled its look in 2015.

Gone are the jerseys adorned with orange numbers, an oversized "Cleveland" wordmark on the chest, and "Browns" running down the leg of the pants (make your own joke here) that Nike introduced. Returning are simple brown-and-white jerseys and pants with the Browns' trademark stripes.

The Browns' logo-less orange helmet remains, though notably with the brown facemask of the Nike-era uniforms and not the white or gray of years past.

In a slight departure from tradition, the new uniforms feature numbers with rounded edges instead of a straight block font

Also included in the new set is an all-Brown "Color Rush" uniform.

The change potentially represents an admission that the uniforms introduced in 2015 - which were reviled by fans and local media - were a mistake:

The Buccaneers recently unveiled a similar uniform rollback, moving from their unpopular "alarm clock" jerseys back to uniforms heavily inspired by what the team wore during its lone Super Bowl win early this century. The move was met with widespread praise.
