The New York Giants requested permission to interview Jason Garrett for their vacancy at offensive coordinator under new head coach Joe Judge, sources told ESPN's Ed Werder.

The Dallas Cowboys must grant access to their NFC East rival because Garrett is under contract with them until Jan. 14. The Cowboys have already announced Garrett won't return as their head coach, but there's nothing to stop the organization from reassigning him for the last week of his deal.

Garrett is coming off a decade as the Cowboys' head coach. He posted an 85-67 career record, and in all three of his trips to the playoffs, the Cowboys were sent home in the divisional round.

The 53-year-old served as offensive coordinator for the Cowboys from 2007-10.
