Report: Garrett still lobbying to continue as Cowboys' coach

Despite being told he won't be retained, Jason Garrett continues to ask the Dallas Cowboys to consider his head coaching candidacy, reports FOX Sports' Jay Glazer.

The Cowboys have reportedly interviewed Mike McCarthy, formerly of the Green Bay Packers, and Marvin Lewis, the Cincinnati Bengals' former head coach, as they seek Garrett's replacement.

Dallas still hasn't officially fired Garrett, whose contract expires on Jan. 14.

Garrett has posted an 85-67 record after taking over for Wade Phillips on an interim basis in 2010. The Cowboys have made the playoffs three times under his watch, falling in the divisional round during each appearance.

The 53-year-old has been in the Cowboys organization since 2007, initially joining the coaching staff as the offensive coordinator.
