Vikings sticking with Zimmer, GM Spielman for 2020
Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer and general manager Rick Spielman will return for the 2020 season, team co-owner Mark Wilf announced Friday.
"We value Mike and Rick's leadership and we have every intent of Mike continuing as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings and Rick leading our football operations, next year and beyond," Wilf said in a statement.
The Vikings extended Zimmer's contract through the 2020 campaign last offseason, and the head coach responded by leading Minnesota to a 10-6 record and playoff berth.
Rumors circulated in recent years that Zimmer planned to retire, but the 63-year-old denied such claims on multiple occasions.
Spielman became the Vikings' general manager in 2012 and the team has since earned four postseason berths.
Like Zimmer, Spielman will enter 2020 on the final year of his current deal.
