New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold and head coach Adam Gase both appeared frustrated during an animated conversation on the sidelines after a failed fourth-down conversion against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football.

The discussion occurred after an incomplete pass on fourth-and-1 late in the fourth quarter in the Jets' 42-21 defeat to the Ravens.

After the conversation went viral on social media, Gase tried to downplay the incident by saying it was just a moment of disappointment after a turnover on downs.

"We were both in the same mind frame," Gase said Friday, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. "Somebody didn't execute their job and basically I was b------- about that. And he was doing the same thing."

Darnold also said his frustration was directed toward his team's lack of execution.

"Where we were at in the game, especially not executing on a fourth down ... a really key down," the signal-caller said. "I was just frustrated about the circumstance. It wasn't anything more than that. We were just having a conversation about not executing the way we were supposed to. That was really it."

New York went 6-for-14 on third-down situations Thursday and didn't convert any of its two fourth-down attempts.

Darnold completed 18 of 32 passes for 218 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception against Baltimore, while the Jets' defense allowed 430 total yards, including 218 on the ground.

The Jets have dropped to 5-9 in 2019, marking the fourth straight year the AFC East club will finish a season with a losing campaign.
