Pittsburgh Steelers wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster has been ruled out of Sunday night's crucial Week 15 matchup with the Buffalo Bills due to a nagging knee injury.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Pittsburgh's top passing weapon was eyeing a return from a three-week absence after practicing for the first time since suffering the injury in Week 11.

Smith-Schuster was a full participant in Wednesday's practice but was downgraded to limited on Thursday before missing Friday's session.

"It wasn't a setback. It was more pushing myself too hard. I have to slow myself down. I am so competitive just to get out there," he said to Teresa Varley of Steelers.com.

Pittsburgh has been victorious in all three contests without Smith-Schuster, but the third-year pro's presence would boost a passing attack that ranks second last in the NFL.

"It's tough (not being out there)," Smith-Schuster added. "I have never been in a situation where I have been out like this. It's new to me. It can be frustrating sometimes, but at the same time, it's part of life. I am going to take it day-by-day, try to get back, try to get back healthy and try and increase my role being out there."

In 10 appearances this year, JuJu has recorded just 38 receptions for 524 yards and three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, lead running back James Conner is questionable for Sunday's contest with a shoulder injury.

The 9-4 Bills and the 8-5 Steelers currently occupy the two wild-card spots in the AFC. Buffalo can clinch a playoff berth with a victory, while Pittsburgh can take a big step toward doing the same with a win on Sunday Night Football.
