Following the release of Kareem Hunt last November, Damien Williams emerged as the Kansas City Chiefs' most reliable rusher the rest of the way.

As a result, the Chiefs are ready to turn to Williams as their full-time starting running back in 2019.

"Damien Williams is our starter," offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy said Thursday, according to the Kansas City Star's Blair Kerkhoff. "We expect him to excel in that role."

Williams started the final three games of the 2018 regular season and scored six touchdowns while averaging 5.1 yards per carry. He added two more scores in the playoffs.

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach had said in February that the job was Williams' to lose, but it appears Bieniemy believes there's no need for a training camp battle or committee approach.

The team added veteran running back Carlos Hyde in free agency and drafted Darwin Thompson in the sixth round of April's draft.
