The Kansas City Chiefs' proposal for both teams to get at least one offensive possession in overtime was rejected at Wednesday's owners meeting in Key Biscayne, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports. However, it may be revisited.
The proposal was tabled at the league's spring meeting and failed to advance to a vote Wednesday due to a lack of support.
NFL competition committee chairman Rich McKay said to Mark Maske of the Washington Post that the Chiefs will resubmit the proposal for the 2020 season and it could be adopted for the playoffs only.
The proposal stems from the Chiefs' AFC Championship Game loss to the New England Patriots in January. The Patriots won the game on a 13-play, 75-yard drive in overtime that took up nearly five minutes and kept the Chiefs' offense from taking the field.
