The controversial outcome of January's NFC Championship Game is getting the film treatment.

"Get the Ref!" - a feature-length comedy about the missed pass-interference call in the New Orleans Saints' loss to the Los Angeles Rams - is in development by Prior Military Productions, according to Mike Scott of the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

The Hollywood-based company said in a news release that Ed Helms is in talks to star in the lead role, with Danny DeVito set to play "a Cajun sheriff." The company also plans to have former and current NFL players appear in the film and hopes to convince commissioner Roger Goodell to make a cameo.

The script was written by a U.S. military veteran and centers around a group of fans who set out to get revenge on the official who missed the call and ultimately cost the Saints a trip to Super Bowl LIII. Producers are aiming to have the film released as early as Thanksgiving 2019.

"It's all in good humor," Prior Military Productions president Joanne Busch said in the news release.

The missed call sparked plenty of backlash against the NFL in the form of petitions, billboards, and lawsuits. The NFL's president of football operations, Troy Vincent, announced earlier in March that the league will consider adding a video official to crews in order to correct egregious mistakes.
