Report: Broncos agree to trade Keenum to Redskins
The Denver Broncos and Washington Redskins have agreed to terms on a trade that sends quarterback Case Keenum to D.C., NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports, citing sources.
The Broncos are expected to receive the Redskins' sixth-round draft pick, while Washington gets Keenum and a Denver seventh-round pick in exchange, sources told Rapoport.
After the Broncos reached an agreement with the Baltimore Ravens to trade for quarterback Joe Flacco in February, Keenum's tenure in the Rockies seemed destined to end soon. The Redskins were apparently also interested in acquiring Flacco.
If both sides agree to a deal, Washington would be Keenum's fourth team in as many seasons. He signed a two-year contract with Denver after a miracle run with the Minnesota Vikings in 2017.
His 2018 was a disappointment. He threw 18 touchdowns and 15 interceptions and led to the Broncos to a 6-10 finish with losses in their final four games.
Keenum was originally due $18 million for the 2019 season. As part of a reworked contract, the Redskins and Broncos will reportedly each pay him $3.5 million and he'll earn a $500,000 bonus, a source told Mike Klis of 9News.
Washington has an obvious need at quarterback after Alex Smith, Colt McCoy, and Mark Sanchez were felled by injuries in 2018. Smith isn't expected to play next season after he suffered a broken tibia and fibula in November.
If completed, the Flacco and Keenum trades would impact the landing spots for the quarterbacks in April's draft.
