The Philadelphia Eagles do not expect quarterback Carson Wentz to return for the playoffs, should they qualify, as he nurses an injured back, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

Wentz will, however, get a scan on his back following the regular season to see if he has any shot of playing in a potential playoff game, Rapoport added.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson confirmed earlier this month that his star signal-caller was battling a stress fracture that "evolved over time" but won't require surgery, while adding that a full recovery will take three months. He's also made it clear that Wentz will not be rushed back from the injury.

Nick Foles will start Sunday in a do-or-die matchup with the Washington Redskins.

The defending Super Bowl champions, who currently sit at 8-7, need a win and a Minnesota Vikings loss to the Chicago Bears in order to qualify for the postseason.
