Derek Carr: 'I want to mess up the draft. I don't want the 1st pick'

After the Oakland Raiders traded away Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper, some fans may have thought the franchise is tanking to accelerate its rebuild under Jon Gruden.

But apparently, no one sent Derek Carr the memo, as the quarterback said on Wednesday that he has no intention of allowing the 2-8 Raiders to end the season in the NFL's basement.

"I want to mess up the draft. I don't want the first (overall) pick," said Carr, according to Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle. "I want to win and have people be mad at me for that."

Carr already did his best to hurt Oakland's draft status, throwing for 192 yards and two touchdowns in a 23-21 Week 11 win over the Arizona Cardinals, a team also in contention for the No. 1 overall pick along with the two-win San Francisco 49ers.

Only one team that currently has a losing record is on Oakland's schedule the rest of the season (Week 16 against the 4-6 Denver Broncos). But with Carr's job potentially on the line, the pivot has everything to play for down the stretch.
