Several players from the Los Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs are strongly considering sitting out Monday night's game if it's played as scheduled in Mexico City's legendary Estadio Azteca due to poor field conditions, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The stadium's pitch is currently marred by several patchy spots and has raised concerns about player safety from all parties involved. The field was left in disarray following an Oct. 11 concert by pop star Shakira.

NFL officials were reportedly expected to convene at Estadio Azteca on Tuesday to make a decision about where Monday's game would be played.

Both teams have begun making backup travel plans in case the game is relocated to Los Angeles, Yahoo's Charles Robinson reports.

"We are working closely with the field manager at Azteca Stadium and others to ensure that we have a NFL quality surface for our game, and we are looking forward to kicking off in Mexico City on Monday night," NFL spokesman Michael Signora told Robinson.

Estadio Azteca is one of soccer's most historic venues, and played host to the 1970 and 1986 FIFA World Cup finals.
