The Jacksonville Jaguars bolstered their backfield by signing veteran running back Jamaal Charles.

Charles signed a one-year deal Tuesday, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Charles ranks 56th on the NFL's all-time rushing yards list. The four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro spent the 2017 season with the Denver Broncos.

Now 31 years old, Charles rushed for 296 yards and one touchdown on 69 carries over 14 games last season. He added 23 receptions for 129 yards.

The Jaguars ruled out sophomore running back Leonard Fournette for their Week 6 game against the Dallas Cowboys due to a hamstring injury. They also placed rusher Corey Grant on injured reserve with a foot injury.

Running back Brandon Wilds was released in a move corresponding with Charles' signing, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, making Charles the lone complement to T.J. Yeldon for the time being.

Yeldon leads the Jaguars with 258 rushing yards on 59 carries but has just one touchdown. They rank 15th in rushing yards per game this season, after leading the league in 2017.
