Carolina Panthers wide receiver Curtis Samuel is expected to miss the season opener after undergoing a small procedure to address an irregular heartbeat, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Samuel, a 2017 second-round pick, had 15 receptions for 115 yards in nine appearances last year before he was shelved by a broken ankle. He was one of Carolina's top preseason performers.

The Panthers host the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday in Week 1 of the regular season.
