The New England Patriots released veteran running back Mike Gillislee on Saturday, a source told Kevin Duffy of The Boston Herald.
The 27-year-old was originally a fifth-round pick of the Miami Dolphins in the 2013 NFL Draft.
He spent two years with the Dolphins and two with the Buffalo Bills, before signing a two-year, $6.4-million contract with the Patriots last offseason.
Gillislee has rushed for 1,248 yards and 16 touchdowns on 258 career carries. He's added a modest 94 receiving yards and one touchdown with 16 receptions.
His Patriots tenure got off to a strong start last season when he rushed for three touchdowns against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1.
