The Minnesota Vikings signed safety George Iloka on Wednesday, three days after his surprising release from the Cincinnati Bengals, the team announced.

The move reunites Iloka with Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer, who was previously his defensive coordinator with the Bengals. Cincinnati's decision to cut Iloka, who was two seasons into a five-year, $30-million deal, reportedly boiled down to finances.

Iloka joins the Vikings on a one-year deal, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The 28-year-old registered 80 tackles and one interception across 16 contests last season.

Iloka started every game he played in for the Bengals since 2013, but figures to slot into Minnesota's lineup as a reserve behind Harrison Smith and Andrew Sendejo.
