The Cleveland Browns are signing free-agent linebacker Mychal Kendricks to a one-year deal, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

According to Kendrick's camp, however, the signing is far from a done deal.

Kendricks himself has denied the report as well, according to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

The Philadelphia Eagles released Kendricks in May, just three months after he won a Super Bowl with the team.

Signing the 27-year-old would add much needed veteran leadership to a young Browns defense short on playoff experience. Kendricks could slot in alongside Jamie Collins and Christian Kirksey to form a formidable linebacking corps.

Kendricks spent the first six years of his career with the Eagles. He was second on the team in regular-season tackles with 77 in 2017 and also added 16 in the playoffs. His release cleared $6 million in cap space for Philly.
