Chiefs' Duvernay-Tardif wants 'M.D.' added to back of jersey
Kansas City Chiefs right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif could make history next season as the first NFL player to step onto the field as a physician.
Duvernay-Tardif, who's currently in South Korea covering the Winter Olympics as a reporter for Radio-Canada, is set to complete his medical degree at Montreal's McGill University by the start of the 2018 season. He hopes the NFL will let him show off that accomplishment on the back of his jersey.
"I want to put Duvernay-Tardif M.D. on my jersey," he told Aaron Rose of the Kansas City Star. "I've already started a conversation with the league office and they say that anything is possible."
But first, Duvernay-Tardif must pass his medical exam in May.
"I need to make sure I pass it because it's the last year I'm allowed to pass that exam," he said. "After that, I'd have to start over the whole thing."
