AFC
The Houston Texans' Deshaun Watson became the first rookie quarterback in NFL history to win a Player of the Month award. On Thursday, he was named the AFC's Offensive Player of the Month for his breakout performance in October. In four games, Watson completed 62 percent of his passes for 1,171 yards and just five interceptions, and his 16 passing touchdowns are the most by a rookie QB in one month. He added 145 yards on the ground and a rushing touchdown while keeping the Texans in the thick of the AFC South race.
Buffalo Bills safety Micah Hyde took the AFC Defensive Player of the Month honors after leading the league with four interceptions in October. He added 22 total tackles in helping Buffalo go 3-1 in the month.
Rookie Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker was nearly perfect in October. The seventh-round draft pick went 18-for-19 on field-goal attempts, registering the most successful kicks in one month by a rookie and picking up the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month award.
NFC
Carson Wentz of the Philadelphia Eagles picked up his first-ever NFC Offensive Player of the Month award after he led the NFC East leaders to a 5-0 record in October. He completed 60 percent of his passes for 1,247 yards and 14 touchdown passes against just three interceptions. He also had a remarkable eight passes of more than 25 yards and a passer rating of 110.4 in the month.
Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen kept his impressive sack streak going through October and, as a result, was named NFC Defensive Player of the Month. Griffen recorded six sacks in five games, continuing a string in which he's registered a sack in every game this season. He also shared the lead for forced fumbles in the month (2) and came in second in tackles (18).
Greg Zuerlein was on the money in October. The Los Angeles Rams kicker missed just one kick in four games, nailing 14 field goals and nine extra points. Zuerlein is currently the league leader in points scored with 84 and he's the NFC Offensive Special Teams Player of the Month.
Rookies
Watson, the Texans' first-round draft pick, was also named Offensive Rookie of the Month.
New Orleans Saints corner Marshon Lattimore took the defensive rookie award. The 11th overall draft choice recorded his first two career interceptions along with five passes defensed and 11 tackles.
