Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Chris Long, a native of Charlottesville, Va., has announced he will donate his first six game checks from this season to fund scholarships in his hometown.

Long was vocal in his dismay over a white nationalist rally that led to riots and violence in Charlottesville in August.

In an effort to promote "educational equity in the community their family calls home," Long and his wife, Megan, intend to provide two students with a seven-year, all-expenses-paid school program.

"In August, we watched people fill our hometown streets with hatred and bigotry. Megan and I decided to try to combat those actions with our own positive investment in our community," Long said in a release from his foundation.
