Report: Rams discussing trade for Trumaine Johnson

The Los Angeles Rams are in discussions with several teams about a potential trade for franchise-tagged cornerback Trumaine Johnson, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, though no teams were specifically mentioned.

The Rams slapped Johnson with the $16.7-million franchise tag for the second straight year this offseason, and he has reportedly signed the tender.

Johnson disappointed in 2016 after a strong 2015 campaign, so the Rams could be reluctant about handing him a long-term contract which would likely put him among the highest-paid players at his position.

Franchise-tagged players can be signed by another team for the price of two first-round picks (if the original team opts not to match the offer), but the Rams can negotiate a different package for Johnson, who will also presumably be asking for a long-term extension from the team that acquires him.
