Report: Tebow has contract offer from independent pro baseball team

It didn't take long for Tim Tebow to receive a contract offer after the former NFL quarterback announced through his agents that he's interesting in pursuing a career in professional baseball.

Tebow has an offer on the table from the Schaumberg Boomers of the independent Frontier League, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The soon-to-be 29-year-old Tebow, who last played baseball full time for Nease High School more than a decade ago, has been working out in Arizona and Los Angeles as an outfielder.

He plans to hold a showcase for interested MLB clubs at the end of August to showcase what big-league-catcher-turned-instructor Chad Moeller is calling impressive skill.

"I am beyond impressed with Tim's athleticism and swing, and it goes without saying that he has shown a high level of discipline and strong work ethic," Moeller said in a statement. "I see bat speed and power and real baseball talent. I truly believe Tim has the skill set and potential to achieve his goal of playing in the major leagues, and based on what I have seen over the past two months, it could happen relatively quickly."

Independent clubs are notorious for hiring attractions such as Tebow to play for their clubs to help boost ticket sales. The most famous of the bunch may be the Sugarland Skeeters of the Independent Atlantic League, who have hired Roger Clemens and his son Koby, as well as former NBA star Tracy McGrady.
