Ray Lewis: I played with torn triceps in Super Bowl XLVII
Former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis has an interesting tale to tell about Super Bowl XLVII.
The future Hall of Famer said he re-tore his triceps the night before the Super Bowl and was unable to tell anyone because it would've jeopardized his ability to play. Lewis missed 10 games with the injury during the season but was able to return for the playoffs - possibly with the aid of deer antler spray.
"I couldn’t tell nobody. I couldn't go to the doctors. I couldn't go to my teammates," Lewis said during a talk with kids at Valencia High School in California in May. "What was I going to tell them? That I couldn’t play?"
After suffering the re-tear, Lewis said he tied a shoestring around his arm, attaching the other end to a sprinkler head in his hotel room, in an effort to get some pain relief and rest before the big game.
"Just so I could get three hours of sleep," Lewis said. "That shoestring held my arm the whole night."
Lewis also said God told him to put his hands on Jacoby Jones at halftime, just prior to a 108-yard kick return for touchdown.
