The Buffalo Sabres aren't going to dwell on the past.

The team - who lost a bidding war for the services of Mike Babcock to the Toronto Maple Leafs - has received permission to interview Dan Bylsma, reports ESPN's Craig Custance.

Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News clarifies that because Bylsma is still being paid by the Penguins, permission must be granted for him to interview for the position with the Sabres.

Bylsma last coached in the NHL in 2013-14.

He helped guide the Pittsburgh Penguins to a Stanley Cup championship in 2008-09 after taking over for Michel Therrien.

The 44-year-old amassed a record of 252-117-32 in 401 games with the Penguins.
