Boxing fans interested in witnessing a rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya are in for some disappointment, according to the CEO of Mayweather Promotions.

"Absolutely not. It will never happen," Leonard Ellerbe said during an appearance on "The Jake Asman Show on SportsMap Radio."

"There's zero interest in doing that. Oscar De La Hoya is just trying to use Floyd's name to create some buzz about whatever he's attempting to do and nobody is paying him any attention."

De La Hoya, who is scheduled to compete in an exhibition boxing match against MMA fighter Vitor Belfort on Sept. 11, recently said he wants to have two fights then take on Mayweather for a second time. The two squared off on May 5, 2007, with Mayweather winning via split decision.

"I think Floyd, after that exhibition he did with Logan Paul, I think he's feeling like he has to prove something once again inside the boxing ring. So, look, if I come out OK - my body feels great. I tell you, my jab is feeling faster than ever. ... If I feel good in these next two fights that I have, I'm going to go out there and call Floyd."

The 44-year-old Mayweather recently fought YouTube star Paul in an exhibition bout. Ellerbe said the fight generated more than one million pay-per-view buys and garnered more attention than the heavyweight title rematch between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder in February 2020.

Ellerbe added the only fight to do better than Mayweather-Paul in the last four years was the exhibition between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020.

De La Hoya, 48, hasn't competed in a professional boxing match since a 2008 loss to Manny Pacquiao.
