Report: Packers, Bears among teams interested in Sammy Watkins
There is significant interest in the services of impending free-agent receiver Sammy Watkins.
Formerly property of the Los Angeles Rams, Watkins is drawing interest from the likes of the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears, and could be an option for the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
The Rams are also trying to bring him back for a second season with the team.
"He's going to have several interested teams. Green Bay Packers would be one, the Bears, the Kansas City Chiefs. What about the Jacksonville Jaguars, near his home, and if they lose Allen Robinson, I would believe Sammy Watkins would be in the mix there," Rapoport said on NFL Network.
Mike Kaye of First Coast News later reported that the Jaguars are indeed interested in Watkins.
Most receiver-needy teams will identify Watkins as a target, as Rapoport pointed out. The Packers would be an intriguing contender as they typically shy away from spending on the free-agent market.
The Packers are under new management, however, with Brian Gutekunst replacing Ted Thompson as general manager.
The Bears are woefully lacking at the receiver position and the Chiefs and Jaguars are looking to restock their depleted corps.
