The NFL has its second new head coach of 2018: Matt Nagy.
The Chicago Bears announced the hiring of the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Monday. Nagy has just one year of experience as a coordinator but was praised for turning around K.C.'s offense late in the regular season after being given play-calling duties.
Nagy isn't the only man on the way out of the Chiefs. Assistant head coach Brad Childress is retiring, sources told Tom Pelissero and James Palmer of NFL Network. Childress spent 2016 as the co-offensive coordinator with Nagy, and likely would have been in contention for the solo role. Instead, the Chiefs will look at another in-house candidate, running backs coach Eric Bieniemy, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Meanwhile, Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks' busy week kicks off with an interview with the New York Giants on Tuesday, followed by meetings with the Arizona Cardinals and the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, according to Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer.
The Cardinals will also interview Atlanta Falcons special teams coach Keith Armstrong on Monday, according to Kent Somers of azcentral sports.
The Cincinnati Bengals fought off a reported late push by Jon Gruden to steal Teryl Austin, hiring the Detroit Lions defensive coordinator for the same role. The Oakland Raiders' new head coach wanted Austin to be his assistant head coach/defensive backs coach.
The Green Bay Packers have zeroed in on former Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine, who's scheduled to interview for the defensive coordinator position, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Pettine last coached in 2015, guiding the Browns to a combined 10-22 record across two seasons.
The San Francisco 49ers named Ken Norton Jr. as their assistant head coach. Norton previously served as the Raiders' defensive coordinator.
Lastly, the Browns are finally hiring an offensive coordinator, and Hue Jackson is looking at an old friend in former Bengals OC Ken Zampese, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Zampese was fired by the Bengals after just 18 games in September. He and Jackson spent time together on Cincinnati's staff.
