Brewers re-sign Sogard to 1-year contact

The Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday announced Thursday they've re-signed super-utility player Eric Sogard to a one-year contract. The team did not disclose how much Sogard would earn next season.

"Eric brings to the team a veteran presence who possesses the ability to play multiple positions and reach base at a high rate," general manager David Stearns said. "We are pleased to welcome Eric and his family back to Milwaukee for the 2018 season."

Sogard hit for a career-high OPS of .770 and got on base at a .393 clip across 94 games for Milwaukee last season after not appearing in the big leagues in 2016.

"I think special things are coming in the future here," Sogard told MLB.com's Adam McCalvy of continuing on with the Brewers. "It's something I want to be a part of."

The 31-year-old played four positions for Milwaukee in 2017, although most of his time came at second base.

Milwaukee also extended pitcher Chase Anderson with a two-year contract Thursday.
