The Milwaukee Brewers rewarded ace Chase Anderson for his breakout 2017 campaign by signing the right-hander to a two-year contract that includes club options in 2020 and 2021.

The deal - which covers Anderson's final three years of arbitration eligibility and would delay his free agency by one year if both options are exercised - is worth $11.75 million in guaranteed money and could potentially pay him $31.35 million via incentives, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com.

"Signing Chase to a multi-year contract furthers our strategy to acquire, develop, and retain talent throughout our organization," Brewers general manager David Stearns said in a statement. "Chase's 2017 performance elevated his stature in the game and demonstrated that he has the capability to lead a rotation.

"We are happy for him and his family and look forward to Chase's contributions for years to come."

Anderson is coming off a breakout 2017 campaign that saw him emerge as the ace of a surprising Brewers club while posting career bests in ERA (2.74), WHIP (1.090), ERA+ (160), and strikeouts (133). He made just 25 starts this season due to an oblique injury suffered during a plate appearance in June.

The 29-year-old lost his arbitration hearing during the offseason and was paid only $2.45 million in 2017.

Anderson, who reached the majors in 2014 with the Arizona Diamondbacks and was traded to Milwaukee prior to the 2016 season, owns a career 36-28 record, 3.87 ERA, 1.280 WHIP, and 469 strikeouts across 104 games.
