If it were up to Demaryius Thomas, the Denver Broncos' quarterback competition would be decided before the team plays its second preseason game.

Speaking at his football camp Friday, Thomas said he wants new Broncos head coach Vance Joseph to name a starter "about a week and a half into camp," before their game against the San Francisco 49ers, according to 9News' Mike Klis.

Thomas also echoed a report from a few weeks ago, saying sophomore passer Paxton Lynch came on strong late at minicamp and closed the gap on 2016 starter Trevor Siemian.

"The last couple of weeks, (Lynch) was just out there lighting it up," he said.

The veteran wideout also commended Siemian for his consistent play at spring practice.

The Broncos surely want Lynch to win the job, as they invested a 2016 first-round pick to draft him, but considering they have a Super Bowl-caliber defense, it's unlikely they'll force the young passer into the starting role unless he truly earns it.
