Report: Butler informs Cavs he wants to remain with Bulls
The Cleveland Cavaliers may be excited over the prospect of acquiring Jimmy Butler in a trade, although that feeling doesn't appear to be mutual.
The three-time All-Star is committed to making the Chicago Bulls a contender in the Eastern Conference again, and has informed the Cavaliers he wants to remain in the Windy City and not be dealt, a source told NBA.com's David Aldridge.
Former Cavs general manager David Griffin was reportedly "elbow deep" in piecing together a package to entice the Bulls to part ways with Butler on Monday prior to the announcement that he was finished with the organization.
The plan was to bring in a third team to complete a deal, as the Cavs are lacking in viable assets.
Whether or not it's with Cleveland, though, Chicago remains active in its pursuit to move Butler, with the Boston Celtics, Denver Nuggets, and Phoenix Suns rumored to be potential landing spots, as well.
Butler is locked into his contract through 2018-19, with a player option of $19.8 million the following year.
