Report: Cavaliers working on multi-team trade scenarios to acquire Jimmy Butler

The Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly working on "assembling multi-team trade scenarios" that would allow them to acquire Chicago Bulls forward Jimmy Butler, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

The multi-team aspect of the trade would allow the Cavs to compile the assets necessary to acquire Butler, per Stein.

Those assets could very well refer to future first-round selections. Unfortunately for the Cavaliers, they lack first-round picks in both this week's upcoming draft and the 2019 draft. To worsen the matter, Cleveland is also without a second-round pick for the next two seasons.

In order for Chicago to move Butler, it seems more than likely that the Bulls would want at least one first-rounder in a potential deal. Involving another team in the transaction would presumably allow Cleveland to send such assets Chicago's way.

The Phoenix Suns, who own the fourth pick in this year's draft, are a possible partner in this multi-team scenario, according to Chicago Tribune's K.C. Johnson.
