Can anything else go wrong for the New York Mets?

The Amazin's latest on-field disaster - a 7-1 shellacking at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewers - was overshadowed late Wednesday night when video surfaced showing beloved mascot Mr. Met flipping the bird to a fan. The team quickly apologized and said it was dealing with the matter - but not before social media, fans, and even the New York tabloids quickly flushed what was left of Mr. Met's dignity down the drain.

The New York Daily News got things started by roasting Mr. Met on the back page of Thursday's paper:

Twitter quickly spun the Mets' apology into a meme that spared no one who's ever been associated with the franchise.

Others simply tried to rationalize or even make excuses for Mr. Met's actions.

Mr. Met's wife, Mrs. Met, was not available for comment on her husband's actions.
