theScore's Justin Boone provided instant breakdowns of every fantasy-relevant selection in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Drake London, WR, Falcons (8th)

Star potential: ★★★★★
2022 projection (17 games): 53 receptions, 816 receiving yards, 6 TDs

London fills a massive need for the Falcons, who entered the draft with arguably the worst receiver depth chart in the league following Calvin Ridley's suspension.

The 6-4, 219-pound London is a versatile big man on the outside, capable of winning in contested situations downfield or using his run-after-catch skills to gain big yards on screens.

He'll form a strong duo with pass-catching tight end Kyle Pitts, giving the Falcons a one-two punch in a passing attack that was stagnant at times last season. Pitts' presence will also help draw attention away from London while the 20-year-old gets acclimated to playing in the pros.

London will also need to fill out his lanky frame and prove he's up to the challenge of battling with NFL corners, but the opportunity for targets in Atlanta will be significant. Sadly, Marcus Mariota is unlikely to be the quarterback to help him reach his peak.

Though this offense is still a work in progress, London has a chance to hit the ground running as a volume-based WR3 in fantasy with a path to WR2 production if he can settle in early.

Fantasy stock up: Drake London, Marcus Mariota
Fantasy stock down: Olamide Zaccheaus, Auden Tate

Garrett Wilson, WR, Jets (10th)

Star potential: ★★★★★
2022 projection (17 games): 61 receptions, 872 receiving yards, 5 TDs

Wilson was the top-ranked receiver in our 2022 prospect rankings, but landing with the Jets leaves something to be desired.

Wilson joins an offense with an unproven quarterback in Zach Wilson, who'll be looking to take a serious step forward in his game after a disappointing rookie season.

Garrett Wilson's arrival will help, since he brings game-breaking quickness and burst that he uses to create separation at every level. His huge catch radius makes him a quarterback's best friend and he's a dangerous threat with the ball in his hands.

Though the 21-year-old has all the tools to emerge as the new No. 1 option in the Jets' passing attack, he'll have to compete with talented sophomore Elijah Moore, veteran wideout Corey Davis, pass-catching back Michael Carter, as well as new additions at tight end in C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Conklin.

While it's a bit more crowded for Wilson than fantasy managers would like, he's the type of instinctive playmaker who's destined to become a star in the pros. He'll offer WR3 fantasy stats in Year 1 with a future outlook that could include far more production.

Fantasy stock up: Zach Wilson
Fantasy stock down: Elijah Moore, Corey Davis

Chris Olave, WR, Saints (11th)

Star potential: ★★★★☆
2022 projection (17 games): 55 receptions, 704 receiving yards, 5 TDs

Olave might be the most pro-ready of this year's receiver prospects, even if he doesn't offer the same elite ceiling as some of the other wideouts who'll be selected in the first round.

His quality route running and above-average hands will ease the transition to the NFL and he has the speed to cause problems downfield. The Saints are getting a finesse pass-catcher who isn't going to mix it up over the middle or come down with a lot of contested grabs.

The 21-year-old profiles as an overqualified No. 2 target, which fits nicely in New Orleans, assuming Michael Thomas can regain his form in 2022.

For Olave to truly excel, the Saints' coaching staff will need to take the training wheels off quarterback Jameis Winston - something it seemed reluctant to do early last season before he was injured.

For now, we'll approach Olave as a WR4 with upside, especially if Thomas struggles in his return to the field.

Fantasy stock up: Jameis Winston
Fantasy stock down: Tre'Quan Smith, Marquez Callaway, Adam Trautman

Jameson Williams, WR, Lions (12th)

Star potential: ★★★★★
2022 projection (9 games): 35 receptions, 560 receiving yards, 3 TDs

Even after suffering a torn ACL in January, Williams impressed NFL decision-makers enough to be selected 12th overall.

The Lions were so smitten with him they traded up from No. 32 in order to secure a player many believe can be a superstar at the next level - once he's healthy.

Williams is coming off a 78-catch, 1,561-yard, 15-touchdown campaign where he showcased his elite speed and ball-tracking skills. He's more than just a field-stretcher, as he offers dynamic agility and an extra gear to blow past defenders before or after the catch.

Depending on how his recovery goes, we might not see Williams until the midway point this season, but once he returns it shouldn't take long for him to make an impact in Detroit.

Though Jared Goff lacks the ideal traits to unlock Williams' downfield skills, the Lions will almost surely be in the market for a new passer soon.

It might take a bit for Williams to get back on the field and hit his stride, but he'll be worth the wait for fantasy managers. Becoming a top-12 fantasy receiver is well within his range of long-term outcomes.

Fantasy stock up: Lions' future franchise QB
Fantasy stock down: D.J. Chark, Josh Reynolds, T.J. Hockenson

Jahan Dotson, WR, Commanders (16th)

Star potential: ★★★★☆
2022 projection: 39 receptions, 507 receiving yards, 4 TDs

By moving back from 11 to 16, the Commanders chose to pass on some of the other top receivers in the class and instead go with Dotson - a good all-round pass-catcher who succeeds thanks to his savvy route-running and excellent hands.

He's fearless when fighting for the ball, which is an admirable trait but one that might cause issues for him in the pros since he lacks size and strength.

In Washington, he'll slot in as the No. 2 option behind Terry McLaurin, whose name has been mentioned as a trade candidate this offseason. A McLaurin trade would open up significant opportunity for Dotson, but we'll cross that bridge if it happens.

The bigger question for Dotson is: who's his long-term QB? If Carson Wentz remains at the helm, Dotson's upside will likely be capped. So consider him a better dynasty pick than someone you should go out of your way to acquire in redraft leagues.

Fantasy stock up: Carson Wentz
Fantasy stock down: Curtis Samuel, Dyami Brown, Cam Sims

Treylon Burks, WR, Titans (18th)

Star potential: ★★★★★
2022 projection: 62 receptions, 801 receiving yards, 5 TDs

In a Round 1 stunner, the Titans shipped star wideout A.J. Brown to the Eagles and immediately replaced him by selecting Burks 18th overall.

We'll be discussing the ripple effects of this deal for a while, but the end result in Tennessee is a nice landing spot for Burks, who will have a shot to emerge as the team's top receiver - perhaps as early as Week 1.

Though Burks has the size of a strong weapon on the outside, his skill set is far more unique than that. In college, Arkansas was often able to get Burks the ball on high-percentage plays near the line of scrimmage and let him make plays from there. He can certainly develop into a well-rounded downfield threat as well, but ideally he won't be asked to simply line up outside as a rookie.

Veteran Robert Woods has made a career as someone offensive coordinators were able to get creative with, deploying him from all over the formation - including out of the backfield. He's the perfect mentor for Burks early in his career.

As long as Burks is used correctly, he'll turn into an outstanding fantasy asset with a chance to reach his NFL ceiling in Tennessee's offense. In that scenario, the 22-year-old would be a fantasy WR3 with immediate WR2 upside.

Fantasy stock up: Treylon Burks
Fantasy stock down: Ryan Tannehill

Kenny Pickett, QB, Steelers (20th)

Star potential: ★★★☆☆
2022 projection (8 starts): 1,829 passing yards, 12 TDs, 7 INTs
168 rushing yards, 1 TD, 7 FUMs

The Steelers - one of many quarterback-needy teams in the opening round - made Pickett the first QB off the board.

It makes sense when you consider Pickett's the most pro-ready passer in this year's class and his local heroics at Pitt, but he falls short when you take into account long-term ceilings.

The 23-year-old is a leader and showed stellar command of his offense during a breakout 2021 campaign - he finished sixth in the nation in passing yards (4,319) and fourth in passing touchdowns (42). Unfortunately, he doesn't have the most powerful arm, and issues with ball security might be linked to his smaller hand size (8 5/8 inches).

With the right talent around him, which Pittsburgh has, Pickett can turn into a competent NFL starter. However, if the Steelers are hoping for more than that, they'll have their work cut out for them.

Fantasy managers should be cautious about overvaluing Pickett based on landing in Pittsburgh. He's far from guaranteed to be under center in Week 1, but we'll know more about his outlook when we see him go head-to-head with Mitch Trubisky in training camp.

Fantasy stock up: Kenny Pickett
Fantasy stock down: Mitch Trubisky

As much flair as the top half of the first round will have to fans, what happens late in the round matters more. When it comes to first-round betting markets, it's important to know if teams are looking to keep their pick or move up once the draft starts April 28.

Remember, first-round selections receive a fifth-year option, which means those players will be affordable for longer. In the modern NFL, team decision-makers have figured out certain positions warrant more salary cap allocation. With a fifth year of affordability up for grabs late on the first night, higher-paid positions are worth reaching for to give a team an extra year of cost certainty.

Draft positional totals

POSITION	TOTAL	OVER/UNDER
Quarterbacks	2.5	-250/+190
Running Backs	0.5	+145/-190
Wide Receivers	5.5	-250/+195
Tight Ends	0.5	+475/-700
Offensive Linemen	7.5	+135/-165
Cornerbacks	4.5	+120/-150
Safeties	1.5	-250/+200

Sportsbooks are less willing to put up totals for defensive linemen and linebackers as various players have been labeled as both in recent years. For example, edge rushers are just as likely to play on the defensive line in a 4-3 alignment as they are to rush from the outside linebacker position in a 3-4 scheme. Rather than deal with this gray area, sportsbooks just removed the market from their offerings.

Last year, there was a late run on edge rushers, with four going in the last five picks for Round 1. That's because:

High-impact edge rushers demand a large salary after their rookie contract expires
The pool of edge rusher prospects is relatively large
A first-round-worthy quarterback or offensive tackle will be reached for earlier
Other defensive players, interior offensive linemen, and running backs are more replaceable

Since there's no betting market for edge rushers, we have to apply the demand at that position to the other positional markets. If an extra edge rusher takes one of the 32 first-round slots, that means they're taking a spot from another position.

The high-profile quarterback, running back, and wide receiver positions get attention, but it's important to remember what the implied probability of their odds are.

POSTION	BET	PROBABILITY
QB	Over 2.5 (-250)	71.4%
RB	Under 0.5 (-190)	65.5%
WR	Over 5.5 (-250)	71.4%

Despite various moments of buzz surrounding Desmond Ridder, Matt Corral, or even Carson Strong, I don't think there's a better than 71.4% chance that a team nabs a quarterback late.

On the other hand, there's a better than two-thirds chance that no team wastes a first-rounder on a tailback, so laying -190 on "under 0.5 running backs" is still acceptable.

It's also hard to imagine both Treylon Burks and Jahan Dotson getting snubbed in the first round given the apparent value of wide receivers following offseason deals for Tyreek Hill, Davante Adams, and mid-tier pass-catchers.

Best bet

Over 15.5 defensive players (-125)

I have 28 players I'm confident will be taken within the first 32 picks. Nine of them are in the front seven and six are in the defensive backfield. That leaves one more defensive player needed to go in the other four picks. With four chances to win something priced close to a coin flip, that's worth a bet.

Of course, "under 16.5 offensive players" is the same bet. Should your sportsbook offer this option at a better price, that's the way to play it.

Best value

Under 7.5 offensive linemen (+135)

For eight offensive linemen to go in the first round, the big four tackles, along with Tyler Smith, and three interior linemen - Tyler Linderbaum, Kenyon Green, and Zion Johnson - all have to go in the top 32. At a plus-money price, the under is worth it.

Under 1.5 safeties (+200)

Despite being the class of his position, Kyle Hamilton's stock is seemingly dropping. Part of that is his combine measurables, but it's also because safeties are deemed replaceable. It'd be a surprise to see a team reach for one at the end of the first round to push this over unless Jalen Pitre (first round +200) gets picked.

The thing that makes the NFL draft most fun is the number of different positions there are on a football field. If you're picking high in the first round, how does the best cornerback compare to the best wide receiver available? You can draft in the mid-teens and still get the best player available at a position of need - like linebacker, safety, or interior offensive line. The No. 1 pick in a given year could be a quarterback, pass-rusher, or offensive lineman.

Two weeks before most NFL drafts, pundits and oddsmakers tend to make assumptions about who the best players are at each position. However, we've learned over the years that beauty is very much in the eye of the beholder.

Let's look at the markets on the offensive side of the ball to see where there might be value.

First QB selected

PLAYER	ODDS
Malik Willis	-175
Kenny Pickett	+130
Desmond Ridder	+1400
Matt Corral	+1800
Sam Howell	+2500
Carson Strong	+10000
Bailey Zappe	+10000

Willis moved from +150 to the odds-on favorite since this market opened months ago - though mock drafts seemed to align Pickett at No. 6 to the Panthers until recently. The market hasn't budged since that first move, an indicator that Willis would be a more likely choice in the top 10, whether that's to the Lions at No. 2, further down to the Seahawks at No. 9, or anywhere in between.

A price of -175 would be scarier if there were more than one contender, but in a two-horse race, it's still palatable to bet on a team buying in on Willis' upside.

First WR selected

PLAYER	ODDS
Garrett Wilson	+125
Drake London	+130
Jameson Williams	+400
Treylon Burks	+1200
Chris Olave	+1800
Skyy Moore	+5000
Christian Watson	+5000
Tyquan Thornton	+5000
Jahan Dotson	+5000

If only Al Davis were still around to call for the Raiders to draft a speedster no one else thinks is the best receiver of the group. Rumor has it that some teams have Williams (+400) atop their board - and all it takes is one team to like a player more than they do the favorite. There are some assumptions that the Falcons will take Wilson to start a run on pass-catchers, but they could simply have loved what they saw when Williams lit up their home turf in the 2021 SEC championship game.

First RB selected

PLAYER	ODDS
Breece Hall	-250
Kenneth Walker III	+200
Isaiah Spiller	+650
Kyren Williams	+1800
Dameon Pierce	+2000
Brian Robinson Jr.	+2500
James Cook	+2500
Tyler Allgeier	+2500

As a rule, the further down the board you expect the first selection of a position to go, the harder it is to predict which player it'll be. With teams chided for wasting a first-round pick on a player at the replaceable position of running back each year, there's no guarantee any of these players go in the first round.

Once you get into Round 2, it becomes more about fit for a team's offense, so I'd play this market a little looser. Sure, Hall and Walker were more decorated college runners, but splitting a unit between Robinson and Cook to create a +1250 bet could be worth a try, especially since we can envision a team taking a tailback from Alabama or Georgia and feeling pretty good about it.

In particular, Dalvin Cook's little brother has the lineage to go with elite receiving skills that a team might value higher than most. If no running back goes on Night 1, you also have a fun sweat for the second round after almost every other bet is decided.

First OL selected

PLAYER	ODDS
Ikem Ekwonu	-140
Evan Neal	+120
Charles Cross	+1000
Trevor Penning	+2000
Tyler Linderbaum	+2500

The buzz around the offensive linemen in this draft has been electric. At one point, Ekwonu and Neal were the top two choices for the Jaguars to pick first overall. Since I'm still not ruling that out, I'd bet both players to go No. 1 in a small-risk, big-reward play rather than try to figure out which team will take an offensive tackle first and which prospect is the apple of its eye.

43:T1e2a,

Let's look at the markets on the offensive side of the ball to see where there might be value.

First QB selected

PLAYER	ODDS
Malik Willis	-175
Kenny Pickett	+130
Desmond Ridder	+1400
Matt Corral	+1800
Sam Howell	+2500
Carson Strong	+10000
Bailey Zappe	+10000

A price of -175 would be scarier if there were more than one contender, but in a two-horse race, it's still palatable to bet on a team buying in on Willis' upside.

First WR selected

PLAYER	ODDS
Garrett Wilson	+125
Drake London	+130
Jameson Williams	+400
Treylon Burks	+1200
Chris Olave	+1800
Skyy Moore	+5000
Christian Watson	+5000
Tyquan Thornton	+5000
Jahan Dotson	+5000

First RB selected

PLAYER	ODDS
Breece Hall	-250
Kenneth Walker III	+200
Isaiah Spiller	+650
Kyren Williams	+1800
Dameon Pierce	+2000
Brian Robinson Jr.	+2500
James Cook	+2500
Tyler Allgeier	+2500

First OL selected

PLAYER	ODDS
Ikem Ekwonu	-140
Evan Neal	+120
Charles Cross	+1000
Trevor Penning	+2000
Tyler Linderbaum	+2500

While you'd like to avoid judging the next 365 days by what happens in the first of what will be many bets in the upcoming calendar year, that's not how the superstitious mind of a bettor works, is it?

We do need to look back at 2021, though, knowing we did our work weeks ago to give us the best chance for success to start 2022. Both of these games saw the favorite flip from the opening line, as we predicted.

Outback Bowl: Penn State vs. Arkansas (-2.5, 48.5)

Line history

It took longer than we thought it would, but that only gave bettors more time to grab Arkansas as underdogs. The market opened the Razorbacks as 4-point 'dogs, and only recently did they become favorites. That's because Penn State took way too long to admit Jahan Dotson would be opting out of the Outback Bowl. The total was as low as 45.5 but has risen despite the key offensive opt-outs at wide receiver for both teams.

On the field

Obviously, Arkansas +4, or anything with a plus associated with it, looks like a great bet in retrospect. No wide receiver means as much to their team's efficiency as Dotson does to the Nittany Lions, who've struggled to move the ball at times this season, even with him playing.

As troublesome as it will be for Penn State's offense, the defense has seen four starters opt out as well. Arkansas had its own star receiver opt out when Treylon Burks announced he was focusing on the NFL draft weeks ago. However, the Hogs can still run the football with Trelon Smith and Rocket Sanders for offensive success, and Penn State will be vulnerable.

While the value that existed for weeks is now gone, this game means much more to Arkansas and its faithful. It's the program's first bowl since 2016, so energy and anticipation are high. I also trust K.J. Jefferson more than I do Sean Clifford. Anything under a field goal is still worth a bet, but we'll hope it's not a sign of things to come and the new year doesn't start with a beat on a bad number.

Pick: Arkansas -2.5

Citrus Bowl: Iowa vs. Kentucky (-3, 44)

Line history

It wasn't as obvious that Kentucky should be the favorite in this game, but when Iowa opened -1.5 a day after the Hawkeyes got mauled by Michigan in the Big Ten Championship, a flip seemed inevitable. Sure enough, the Wildcats have now been deemed a full field goal better than Iowa. The total has barely moved off 44, with slight movement a half-point to either side.

On the field

This is the first Kentucky team in years that's had a reliable, multi-dimensional offense. It's in large part thanks to a pair of Big Ten transfers that brought explosiveness with them to Lexington. Penn State transfer Will Levis has shown more throwing ability than most might've thought, but it helps when Nebraska transfer Wan'Dale Robinson is out there eluding defenders with his route running.

Iowa's defense took it on the chin against the Wolverines, but Kirk Ferentz will have things tightened up for the Wildcats. The big issue is on offense, as this group is one of the worst in the Power Five. Yet this team has managed to win games anyway. That's the wonder that is Iowa football. The Hawkeyes convert turnovers into points and make big special teams plays that go unnoticed by the box score.

Unlike the Penn State opt-out subterfuge, there are no secrets here. Tyler Goodson is the lone opt-out for Iowa, and that's been reflected in the line. I made the Wildcats a -3 favorite, so if you have Kentucky at -1 or better from early in the bowl betting process, you can ride with that. Otherwise, it's best to focus on the bigger games of the day.

Pick: Pass at current number (Kentucky -1 in pool play)

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Justin Fields doesn’t need the energy of 110,000 people mostly rooting against him in a stadium to put on a show.

The Ohio State quarterback is just fine shredding defenses in front of a more intimate gathering.

Justin Fields passed for 318 yards and four touchdowns, two to Chris Olave, and No. 3 Ohio State beat No. 18 Penn State 38-25 on an eerily quiet Saturday night at what is usually one of the most raucous settings in college football.

“I just think it’s the work from the offseason, I just think me and the receivers being on the same page, that’s why we’re having so much success now,” Fields said.

Jeremy Ruckert also caught a pair of touchdowns, Master Teague II ran for another and the Buckeyes generated 526 yards of offense in their 15th straight Big Ten win and 10th straight on the road against a ranked opponent.

Ohio State (2-0) didn’t take long to break the game open and hand Penn State (0-2) its first 0-2 start since 2013.

“We try to run a lot of plays,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said. “I thought we did a good job controlling the ball and having balance on offense.”

The Buckeyes didn’t need to run a lot of plays to get a lead.

Garrett Wilson took an opening sweep 62 yards to set up Teague III’s short touchdown run two plays later.

The Buckeyes only needed five plays on their next drive to take a 14-0 lead when Fields zipped a 26-yard pass over corner Joey Porter Jr.’s shoulder to Olave in the end zone.

“We really couldn’t get them off-schedule,” Penn State coach James Franklin said. “And with a quarterback like that and their offensive personnel, not getting them off schedule is going to be challenging.”

A white out at Penn State is normally one of the great spectacles in sports and the recent ones involving the Buckeyes have been classic games. The last three have been decided by a total of 11 points, with Ohio State taking two.

But the Big Ten is playing in mostly empty stadiums because of the pandemic.

Instead of an almost glittering sea of more than 100,000 white-clad Nittany Lions fans singing along to “Shout” and shaking the stadium as they bounce to “Zombie Nation,” about 1,000 friends and family of players were scattered in the stands behind each bench in Beaver Stadium.

The student-section was filled with cardboard cutouts of fans and the only glow on Halloween night came from the lights bouncing off the empty metal bleachers.

Maybe it would have helped the Nittany Lions to have had the home-field advantage because they never really threatened the Buckeyes without it.

Penn State got on the board when Jake Pinegar capped an 11-play, 61-yard drive with a 31-yard field goal.

But Fields stayed hot The Buckeyes' quarterback, who completed 20 of 21 passes a week ago, completed his first seven and went 15-for-18 in the first half.

Sean Clifford finished 18-for-30 for 281 yards with three touchdowns and an interception for Penn State. He was sacked five times, and really roughed up in the first half.

“He was getting hit way too much,” Franklin said.

The Nittany Lions got a break when Ohio State turned the ball over on downs with a second left before halftime. Fields took a knee on fourth down too quickly to burn the clock. Penn State's Jake Stout used it to make a 50-yard field goal and cut it to 21-6.

Sean Clifford, who finished 18-for-30 for 281 yards with three touchdowns and an interception, found his first rhythm on the Nittany Lions first drive of the second half. He went 5-for-5 with a 14-yard scoring toss to Jahan Dotson that cut Ohio State’s lead to 21-13.

But the Buckeyes answered back seven plays later when Fields laid a deep ball into Olave’s hands for a 49-yard touchdown.

Dotson caught touchdown passes of 21 and 20 yards in the fourth, but a 22-yard field goal from DiMaccio and another short touchdown catch by Ruckert had already put the game out of reach.

Dotson finsihed with eight catches for 144 yards in a breakout game.

For Ohio State, Olave had seven catches for 120 yards and Wilson made 11 grabs for 111 yards, making it two straight games with two Buckeyes over 100 yards receiving for the first time in school history.

THE TAKEAWAY

Ohio State: Fields looks even better than last year when he was a Heisman Trophy finalist. As long as his offensive line continues to protect him well, he will continue to torch defenses with his accuracy.

Penn State: The offense was out of sorts all night. Only four players caught passes, Clifford had nowhere to run for much of the game and Penn State didn’t have a chance to work in running backs Keyvone Lee or Caziah Holmes playing from behind.

INJURY FRONT

Ohio State cornerback Cam Brown was carted off in the fourth quarter with a left leg injury.

POLL IMPLICATIONS

The Buckeyes will likely stay put. Penn State could potentially drop as No. 22 SMU, No. 23 Iowa State and No. 25 Boise State all turned in convincing wins.
