Virginia Tech safety C.J. Reavis is no longer enrolled at the school following a student conduct hearing Thursday about an unspecified matter, according to Cameron Austin and Andy Bitter of The Roanoke Times.
An attorney for Reavis, an expected starter on defense for the Hokies, said they're working through the appeal process, but did not divulge further information.
"Without discussing the details, there is an appeal process that we are going through at this point," said lawyer Jimmy Turk. "I expect that process to maybe exhaust itself over the next week to 10 days."
A school athletics official would not state whether Reavis' status on the squad had been changed. The reason for the conduct hearing was not immediately disclosed by school officials.
The case will most likely remain shrouded in mystery for the immediate future as state law prohibits the release of student records, including conduct committee files.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder played in 12 games during his freshman campaign last season, recording eight tackles, half a sack, a blocked kick, and a forced fumble.
