Report: Trump invites Saban, Tebow to college sports roundtable
President Donald Trump invited multiple figures currently or formerly involved in college sports to a roundtable at the White House to explore potential legislation that could alter the industry, sources told Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger.
National championship-winning coaches Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, and Mack Brown reportedly received invitations to the March 6 event as well as Heisman winners Tim Tebow and Charlie Ward. Tiger Woods and NBA commissioner Adam Silver are also among the invitees.
Trump will serve as the chair of the roundtable, with Florida governor Ron DeSantis and New York Yankees president Randy Levine operating as vice chairs.
As many as 40 people received invitations to take part in the "Saving College Sports Roundtable," according to Dellenger.
The group is expected to discuss the once-amateur industry's rapid ascension into a more professional sports model.
Many of the parties who find themselves divided on the direction of college sports will share the room with one another in addition to Trump, who's expressed his desire to bring stability to the industry. The president has also said previously that he'll aim to protect college sports from legal challenges.
In July, Trump signed an executive order that intended to regulate NIL deals by prohibiting pay-for-play arrangements.
Skepticism remains among some invitees who believe the meeting could be rescheduled or cancelled, Dellenger adds.
