Report: Kelly rejected 2 settlement offers from LSU

Former LSU coach Brian Kelly has turned down two settlement offers from the program, according to ESPN's Mark Schlabach.

The first offer was reportedly a $25-million payment by former LSU athletic director Scott Woodward on Oct. 26 when Kelly was fired, per documents obtained by The Advocate. The proposal included the condition to remove language that would have reduced Kelly's buyout if he coached in the future.

Kelly was later offered $30 million in two payments but reportedly declined both options.

Kelly's attorneys gave LSU until 6 p.m. ET on Monday to confirm that he'll receive the $54-million buyout specified under his 10-year, $95-million deal with the school, Schlabach adds.

If there is no written confirmation provided, Kelly will "pursue all available legal remedies," according to a Nov. 5 letter written to LSU's new athletic director, Verge Ausberry, and board of supervisors member John Carmouche.

Without a settlement, Kelly would receive his $54 million in monthly installments through 2031. Any salary he earns from a future coaching job would be subtracted from that amount.

LSU fired Kelly after a home loss to Texas A&M dropped the team to 5-3. The Tigers lost their first game under interim coach Frank Wilson on Saturday, falling 20-9 to Alabama.
