Cal's Mendoza transferring to Indiana
Former Cal quarterback Fernando Mendoza committed to Indiana for next season, he told On3's Hayes Fawcett.
Mendoza enjoyed a breakout this past season for the Golden Bears. The redshirt sophomore passed for 3,004 yards, 16 touchdowns, and six interceptions with a 68.7% completion rate in 2024.
The Miami native improved on all his statistical metrics from a 2023 campaign where he threw for 1,708 yards, 14 TDs, and 10 INTs.
Fernando will reunite with his brother, Alberto Mendoza, who spent his freshman season with the Hoosiers this year.
Indiana dipped back into the transfer portal for a consecutive offseason following its success this year with Kurtis Rourke. The former Ohio quarterback passed for 3,042 yards, 29 TDs, and five INTs while completing 69% of his pass attempts this season.
Rourke's pairing with head coach Curt Cignetti helped spur the Hoosiers' improvement from three wins in 2023 to 11 victories in 2024, the most in a single season in program history.
