Report: Georgia State expected to name strength coach as interim head coach
Georgia State is expected to promote head strength and conditioning coach Mike Sirignano to interim head coach, a source told Bruce Feldman of The Athletic.
The move comes one day after former head coach Shawn Elliott resigned to take the run game coordinator and tight ends coach role at South Carolina. Elliott, who racked up a 41-44 record over seven seasons with the Panthers, said he stepped down from his post to be closer to his family.
Sirignano was hired as the head strength coach in 2023 after spending three years at Louisville. He doesn't have any college head coaching or coordinator experience.
After Elliott's departure, Georgia State athletic director Charlie Cobb announced that spring football practices and the program's Spring Game had been postponed.
