Oregon head coach Dan Lanning said Sunday that quarterback Bo Nix intends to play in the Fiesta Bowl versus Liberty on Jan. 1, according to Matt Prehm of 247Sports.

Lanning added Nix already informed his teammates of the decision.

"He wants that opportunity to go out on the field one more time," Lanning said, according to Jarrid Denney of On3.

Nix, who transferred from Auburn to Oregon in 2022, posted his best season in 2023 after passing for 4,145 yards and 40 touchdowns against three interceptions. He also scored six TDs on the ground to help Oregon reach the Pac-12 title game. The Ducks ultimately fell short against Washington on Friday, suffering their second loss to the Huskies this campaign.

A Heisman trophy contender this season, Nix initially wouldn't commit to the bowl game, adding, "I'm going to miss college football."

The senior passer has played 60 games across his stints at Auburn and Oregon.

The Fiesta Bowl will take place at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
