Report: Texas' Ewers out indefinitely due to AC joint sprain
An MRI on Sunday revealed Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers suffered a Grade 2 AC joint sprain in his right shoulder, reports Pete Thamel of ESPN.
Ewers is expected to miss some time, but his injury reportedly isn't season-ending. The Longhorns will likely have a return timetable later this week, Thamel adds.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said Monday that Ewers is week-to-week, adding that the Longhorns will do "everything in our power" to get the passer back soon, according to Joe Cook of On3.
Ewers left Saturday's 31-24 win over Houston early after going down with a shoulder injury. He seemingly sustained the ailment after lowering his shoulder while attempting to pick up a first down on a run with Texas up 24-21.
Ewers, who also missed time with a sternoclavicular sprain in 2022, has completed 70.9% of his passes for 1,915 yards and 13 touchdowns against three interceptions this year. He's also added five TDs on the ground while helping Texas start the season 6-1, including 3-1 in Big 12 play.
With Ewers sidelined, the Longhorns are expected to move forward with redshirt freshman Maalik Murphy, who completed 1 of 2 passes for 7 yards after replacing Ewers on Saturday. Their quarterback depth chart also features Arch Manning.
Texas will host BYU next.
