Ryan Day to receive 2-year extension
Day's new deal, pending approval from the school's board of trustees, will pay him a total of $9.5 million annually through the 2028 season. He previously made $7.6 million per year.
The new contract would move Day into a tie with Michigan State's Mel Tucker as the highest-paid coach in the Big Ten.
Day has led the Buckeyes to a 34-4 record since being hired as the school's coach in December 2018. Ohio State has posted a 23-1 mark in Big Ten competition during his tenure.
The New Hampshire native has led the Buckeyes to two College Football Playoff appearances and won two Big Ten Championships (2019, 2020).
Day is among five Ohio State coaches who are set to receive an extension, including men's basketball coach Chris Holtmann.
The Buckeyes finished with an 11-2 record during the 2021 season, which included a win over Utah in the Rose Bowl.
