Manny Diaz is Penn State's new defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, the school announced Saturday.
"My family and I are so excited to come to Happy Valley and join the Penn State family," Diaz said in a statement. "The opportunity to lead Linebacker U is an honor and I will work every day to uphold that tradition."
Diaz, 47, served as Miami's head coach for the past three seasons before he was fired Monday. He was replaced by former Oregon bench boss Mario Cristobal, whom the Hurricanes were already pursuing before Diaz was relieved of his duties.
Head coach James Franklin has now filled the vacant position on his staff after former assistant Brent Pry was named Virginia Tech's new coach.
"We are thrilled to add Manny Diaz as our defensive coordinator," said Franklin. "Manny is a veteran defensive play-caller whose head coaching experience will bring tremendous value to our organization.
The Miami native led the Hurricanes to a 21-15 mark during his tenure, helping the program make three bowl appearances.
Diaz has previously worked as a defensive coordinator for Middle Tennessee, Texas, Mississippi State, Louisiana Tech, and Miami.
