Miami named D'Eriq King its starting quarterback for the upcoming season, the Hurricanes announced Monday.

King transferred to Miami in January after spending the previous four seasons at Houston. After four games in his senior campaign last year, he opted to redshirt for the remainder of the season to preserve his final year of eligibility.
"D'Eriq's hard work both on and off the field has earned him the starting quarterback position," Hurricanes head coach Manny Diaz said. "His leadership qualities have been evident since he arrived on campus, continuing through mat drills, spring practice, our virtual meetings, and summer activities. We're excited to see him lead this offense and I know his teammates are excited as well."
King led Houston to a 1-3 record in his four appearances last season and completed 52.7% of his passes for 663 yards and six touchdowns. He also had six scores on the ground.
The redshirt senior amassed 4,295 passing yards and 78 total touchdowns - including 28 rushing touchdowns - in 22 starts for the Cougars.
