Sophomore Georgia quarterback Jacob Eason is expected to transfer to Washington, multiple sources told Adam Jude of The Seattle Times.

Eason, who was named the 2015 Gatorade National Player of the Year at Lake Stevens high school in Washington, would be required to sit out the 2018 season under NCAA transfer rules. The 6-foot-5 sophomore would then have two years of eligibility remaining.

Named a starter as a true freshman in 2016, the former four-star recruit completed 55.1 percent of 370 pass attempts for 2,430 yards, 16 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in his first season.

He opened 2017 as the starter under center but suffered a sprained left knee ligament in the season opener after attempting just seven passes. True freshman Jake Fromm then took over, a job he would hang on to after Eason's recovery midway through the season.

"It was a learning year, for sure,” Eason said Monday night, according to Jude. "I learned from it and I think ultimately it was a good year to have under my belt, something that will help me out in the future. Something to look back on whenever I’m in doubt or I’ve got some problems. It was a learning year and I’m glad - proud as hell of Jake and this team for what they did and what they accomplished. It was a great season."

With Fromm likely entrenched in the starting role after leading Georgia to Monday's National Championship game against Alabama, Eason could give himself a better opportunity to regain a starting job with a transfer to Washington. He would compete for the starting role in 2019, once junior Jake Browning runs out of eligibility.
