Mick Cronin denies 'officially accepting' UNLV job
Cincinnati head coach Mick Cronin says he never made anything official after flirtations with UNLV for its head coaching job, denying he'd agreed to take the position.
"I never officially accepted," Cronin told Jeff Goodman of ESPN. "The interest was flattering and I understand these things are difficult for everyone."
The (sort of) denial comes after UNLV athletic director Tina Kunzer-Murphy told Geoff Grammar of Albuquerque Journal they had a deal in place, and Cronin was set to inform Cincinnati of his decision.
"He left saying he would be our head coach," Kunzer-Murphy said on Friday.
Either way, Cronin is heading back to the Bearcats and UNLV is moving on to other candidates. The Runnin' Rebels are expected to interview New Mexico State's Marvin Menzies within the next 24 hours.
