Auburn star Johni Broome won't need surgery after suffering a left ankle sprain during Saturday's 66-63 win over South Carolina, the school announced, according to NCAA's Andy Katz.

Broome underwent an MRI on Sunday morning.

Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl called the injury "significant" postgame on the SEC Network, per ESPN's Jeff Borzello.

Broome suffered the injury in the second half when he landed on teammate Chaney Johnson's foot while attempting to corral a rebound. The fifth-year forward immediately screamed in pain and didn't put any weight on his left foot as he was helped off the court.

Broome has been a huge part of the Tigers' strong start and was widely considered the front-runner for the Wooden Award. He entered Saturday's matchup averaging 18.7 points, 11.2 boards, 3.4 assists, and 2.7 blocks across 15 appearances.

His 10 double-doubles were tied for fourth in the nation.
